Man, 42, Remanded In Custody For Recording Hotel Owner With Guest

A man, Joshua Samuel, has landed in trouble for allegedly using the camera on his phone to record the CEO of Excusite Hotel and Suites, Jessy Abayomi Milton, in order to blackmail him with a guest in Lagos State. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Samuel, has been arrested and charged for conspiracy and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace under the Criminal Laws of the State.

 

The incident happened on 31st December, 2024, at the hotel located at Gowon Estate, Egbeda area of Lagos.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at Gowon Estate Division and the suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

COUNT 1: “That you, Joshua Samuel “M” and one other now at large on the 31th day of December, 2024 at about 2000hrs at No 118, E close 3rd Avuenue Gowon Estate Egbeda, Alimosho, Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of the peace by trickily entering into Excusite Hotel and Suites without the consent of the owner thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168 and punishable under Section 168(b) of the criminal law of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

COUNT 2: That you, Joshua Samuel “M” and one other now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by using your phone to record on video the CEO, one Jessy Abayomi Milton “M” of Excusite Hotel and Suites without his consent at No 118, E close 3rd Avenue Gowon Estate Egbeda, Lagos and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168 and punishable under Section 168(b) of the criminal law of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

He pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 26th February, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
