Man, 44, Arraigned For Beating Up Police Officer While On Duty

An Assistant Superintendent of Police, Supol Abdulwaliu Esuola, had a nasty experience in Oyo State while performing his lawful duty as a man held him and attempted to strangle him by his uniform’s collar.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Supol Esuola was rescued and the 44-year old man, Qudri Abacha, was arrested for the alleged assault under the Criminal Law of the State and subsequently charged before Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, over the alleged conduct.
The incident happened on 16th February, 2026, at Daleto Street, Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, informed the court that the defendant attacked the complainant who wanted to intervene after he had earlier threatened one Mrs. Funke Johnson with a broken bottle and sticks.
Following the intervention, the defendant assaulted the complainant and was later arrested and charged on two-count of assault and threat to life.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 356 and 323 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The Court’s President, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum, who must be relatives of the defendant and must each provide evidence of tax payment to the Oyo State government.
The matter was adjourned till 6th April, 2026, for hearing while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
