Man, 44, Arraigned For Beating Wife Inside Market Over Money For Feeding

A 44-year old man, Oyelakin Saheed, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly beating his wife, Raheem Rukayat, 32, in public over money for feeding and inflicting injury on her body in the process inside the market.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 4th July, 2025, at Ikotun Market, Ikotun area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the wife demanded for money for the feeding of the family but he refused, which led to a disagreement between them in the market. In the process, the man grabbed the wife and beat her up mercilessly inside the market.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division. The man was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct against the complainant.
The Police found him culpable after interrogation and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The changes read:
“That you, Oyelakin Saheed ‘M’, on the 4th of July, 2025 at Ikotun Market, Ikotun Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did assault your wife one Raheem Rukayat ‘F’ 32 years old by beating and inflicting bodily injuries on her and thereby committed an offence under Section 170 and punishable under Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II: “That you, Oyelakin Saheed ‘M’, since February, 2025 to date, in the prementioned Magisterial District, did fail to provide necessary support for your son ‘M’ 8years old and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 247 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with surety, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while address will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
