A 45-year old man, Iyere Joseph, has landed in trouble for allegedly battering his wife, Chinyere Joseph, for asking him for money to feed their children in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Alhaji Bashiru Street, Ajao Estate, Isolo, Lagos, where they reside.
Trouble was said to have started for the embittered Iyere when his wife, Chinyere, asked him for money to buy food for the children. He became angry, grabbed Chinyere, beat her mercilessly and inflicted injury on her eyes, mouth and other parts of her body.
She was said to have bled profusely and was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment while his conduct was reported at DSVA Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos for prosecution.
Thus, he was arrested and detained for interrogation over his conduct but he was said not to have shown any remorse and still failed to provide for the children.
He was found culpable and consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged assault and failure to provide for the family.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
