Man, 47, Arraigned For Allegedly Setting Wife’s Clothes On Fire During Squabble

A 47-year old man, Chijioke Chukwu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting his wife,  Chinenye Chukwu and setting her clothes in fire during a squabble.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 13th February, 2025, at Egbesi Street, Ilasa-Maja area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the man had a disagreement with the complainant over an undisclosed matter, which led to exchange of words. And in the process,  he beat her mercilessly and inflicted injury on her.
Apart from inflicting injury on her, the man gathered her clothes and set them on fire while the wife was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment over the injuries she sustained during the attack.
The matter was reported to the Police. The man was arrested and charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
COUNT I: “That you, CHIJIOKE CHUKWU ‘m’ on the 13th of February 2025, at Egbesi Street, Ilasa-Maja area of Lagos State, in the Ogba Magisterial district, did unlawfully set fire clothes belonging to one CHINENYE CHUKWU ‘f’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 350 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”
COUNT II:” That you, CHIJIOKE CHUKWŨ ‘m’ on the 8th of June 2025, same address, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did assault one CHINENYE CHUKWU ‘f’ by slapping her on her right eye and shoulder, where she sustained injuries and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 173 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor,  Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
Man, 29, Docked For Using Girl,10, For Porn Action

A 29-year old man, Ismaila Akinola, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly using a 10-year old girl to perform porn action by engaging her in sex on top of a chair and deflowered her. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 4th August, 2025, at Shagari Estate, Ipaja area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect, Ismaila Akinola, who stays with the victim in the same apartment, went to cook noodles in the kitchen with his phone. While he was cooking, he asked her to come and watch something on his phone. It turned out to be a pornographic video and he asked her to position herself on the chair for similar action.
He reportedly removed his boxer short, undid her pants and had sexual intercourse with her by penetration.
The matter later leaked and the victim was asked what happened. She narrated how the suspect lured her into the act without her consent and defiled her.
The matter was reported to the Police at Gowon Estate Division. The suspect was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Command for interrogation.
After rounds of interrogation,  the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Ismail Akinola ‘m’, on the 4th day of August 2025, at about 1430hours, at  BL Street, House 7, F.L.C.H. Shagari Estate, Ipaja Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile the victim ‘f 10years old by having forceful sexual intercourse with her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O.Tanimola, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it send it to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
