Man, 48, Arraigned For Swindling Lagos State Commissioner Of N30m

A 48-year old man, King Olayiwola Azeez, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling the Honourable  Commissioner of Wealth Creation and Employment, Mr. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, to the tune of the sum of N30m under false pretence.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in the month of November, 2024.
According to the Police,  the suspect conspired with others now at large with the intent to defraud, did enter into agreement on the property lying and situated at 16 Samuel Awoniyi Street, off Salvation Road, Opebi, Ikeja and used it to obtain the sum of N30m from Honourable Akinyemi Ajigbotafe.
The matter was reported to the Commissioner of Police Special Squad of the State Command in Ikeja. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, King Olayiwola Azeez ‘m’, and others at large, sometime in the month of November, 2024 at Opebi, Ikeja Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: obtaining money by false pretence and stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, King Olayiwola Azeez ‘m’, on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial district, with intent to defraud, did enter into agreement with your property lying and situated at No. 16 Samuel Awoniyi Street, off Salvation Road, Opebi Ikeja and using it to obtain the sum of Thirty Million Naira (N30,000,000.00) from Honourable Akinyemi Ajigbotafe ‘m’, a representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, King Olayiwola Azeez ‘m’, on the same date, time nd place in the aforesaid Magisterial district, did dishonestly steal the sum of Thirty Million Naira (N30,000,000.00), with your property and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280(1)(a)(b) and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
