Man, 50, Remanded In Custody For  Attacking Wife & Daughters With Cutlass

A 50-year old trader, Mr. Sunday Ezeh, at the Ikotun Market in Lagos State, who allegedly attacked his wife, Nwaneka Ezeh, with cutlass for not bearing a male child for the past 14 years since they got married, has been remanded in custody. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the father of three daughters was arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court for assault and threatening his wife, Nwaneka, with violence in order to chase her and their daughters away to enable him get married to a lady, Blessing, who had promised to bear a male child.
The lady in question, Blessing, reportedly gave Mr. Sunday conditions that he must chase away his wife, Nwaneka and their three daughters from their home before she would come in and bear him the male child he had desired.
 Thus, Mr. Sunday reportedly attacked and used a cutlass to chase away his wife and three daughters from their house at No. 48 Baba Ijesha Street, Moonlight Bus Stop, Igando area of Lagos, where they reside.
The alleged assault was reported to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command for investigation and prosecution over his conduct. He was eventually arrested and charged before the Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.
When he was arraigned before the Court, Mr. Sunday pleaded not guilty on the three counts charges under Sections 172,173 and 56 of the criminal code, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The prosecutor,  Mr. Kokoye Olusegun, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. S.O. Obasa, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood, identification and tax payment.
The Court also directed that one of the sureties must be a blood relation that will be above 50 years and the second surety must be a community leader or religious leader that lives within the jurisdiction of the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 30th January, 2024, while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Gender Section detention cell pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The embattled mother of three, Nwaneka, got married to Mr. Sunday from Obofia village in Awgu town, Awgu Local Government area of Enugu State, about 14 years ago and they had only daughters.
Trouble started after Nwaneka bore the third daughter and Mr. Sunday became angry and blamed his inability to get a male child on his wife, Nwaneka.
 He then became violent and wanted the wife to leave his house with her daughters so that he will get another wife, who was identified as Miss Blessing, who was said to have promised to bear him a male child that will inherit his properties.
The conditions given by Miss Blessing that Mr. Sunday will have to send his wife and three daughters away from their house before she would move in and get married to him, broke the relationship between the couple who reportedly lived in peace before then.
