A 66-year old man, Adesina Adebaye, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after his fence collapsed and fell on top of his two siblings and killed them in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Adebaye has been arrested and charged for murder over the death of the victims: Atolagbe Abdulwahab,10 and Roheed Atolagbe, 7.
The incident happened at Ajao Street in Isawo, Agric area of Ikorodu, Lagos,  where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect, Adebaye, caused the death of the victims, who were playing when the fence collapsed on them.
The neighbours were said to have attempted to rescue the victims but they were unable to do so; before they were taken to an undisclosed hospital, they were already dead and the doctor on duty confirmed them dead while their corpses were deposited at the mortuary for autopsy reports.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area and Adebaye was arrested. He was later transferred to the SCID, Yaba, for further investigation. And after rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Paul, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the case.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ajayi, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be made available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
