Man, 80, Lands In Trouble Over Stealing Of Street Naming Pole

An 80-year old man, Alhaji Yekini Yusuf, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after being caught stealing street naming pole and he assaulted the person that caught him. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Alhaji Yusuf has been arrested and charged for assault and stealing under the Criminal Laws of the State.

 

The incident happened at Abiola Adeyemi Street, Off Governor’s Road, Ikotun, Lagos.

 

According to the Police, the man and others now at large conspired and stole the property belonging to the Lagos State Government. And while they were escaping, one of their neighbours, Prince Abiola Noah, was said to have raised alarm and he assaulted him.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division. The suspect was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

The charges read:

COUNT I: That you, Alhaji Yekini Yusuf and others at large, sometime in the month of June 2024 at Abiola Adeyemi Street, Off Governor’s Road, Ikotun, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit. Stealing Street Naming Pole property of Lagos State Government and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

COUNT II: That you, Alhaji Yekini Yusuf and other at large, sometime in the month of June, 2024 at Abiola Adcyami Street, Off Governor Road, Ikotun, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully convert Abiola Adeyemi Street naming Pole Property of Lagos State Government and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 348(1) & (2) of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

COUNT III: That you, Alhaji Yekini Yusuf, on the 15th July, 2024 at Abiola Adeyemi Street, Off Governor’s Road, Ikotun Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168(D) of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

COUNT IV: That you, Alhaji Yekini Yusuf, on the aforementioned date at Abiola Adeyemi Street, Off Governor’s Road, Ikotun Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did assault Prince Abiola Noah and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 170 (a) and punishable under Section 172 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The Prosecutor, Supol Evelyn, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. M.A. Adegbaye, granted him bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will fulfill his bail conditions.
