Man Beats Up Police Man While Attempting To Make Arrest

It was a nasty experience for a Police Sergeant, Anthony Abiola, attached to Ikotun Police Division in Lagos, who went to arrest a suspect and ended up being thoroughly beaten and injured in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Sergeant Abiola was reportedly seriously battered by the suspect, Tochukwu Ukachukwu, at Governor’s Road, Ikotun area of Lagos, where he went to perform his lawful duty. Apart from battering him, the suspect also destroyed his mobile phone before the victim was rescued.

Sergeant Anthony met his fate when he went to invite Mr. Ukachukwu over an undisclosed matter but he insisted that he did not commit any offence and was not going to the Police Station with him.
It was when the officer, Sergeant Anthony, wanted to apply the use of force that he was badly beaten and injured.

He was said to have contacted the Police Station where he was attached and other officers were mobilised. The suspect, Ukachukwu, was eventually arrested and detained at the Police Station.

After interrogation, Mr. Ukachukwu was found culpable and later charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, assault and malicious damage.
He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since the defendant pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove the matter.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O Shomade, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 14th August, 2019.
