Man Caught While Attempting To Steal Toyota Hilux With Master Key Inside Estate

A 42-year old man, Orji Charles, has landed in trouble while attempting to use a master key to steal a Toyota Hilux worth millions of Naira, belonging to the owner, Ogunleye Abimbola, inside an estate in Lagos State. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 15th December, 2024, in the early hours of the morning at Royal Palm Divine Estate in Isheri Oshun area of Lagos, where the owner, Abimbola resides.

 

According to the Police, the suspect went to the estate with the master key and used it to open the driver’s door to steal the vehicle. But before he tried to drive the vehicle out of the estate, he was caught by the security men on duty.

 

He was handed over to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division for interrogation over his alleged conduct. And after thorough interrogation, he was found culpable. He was then charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence that attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

“That you , Orji Charles, on the 15/12/2024 at about 03:00hrs at Royal Palm Divine Estate Isheri Oshun, in the Lagos magisterial district, did conduct yourself in a way and manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by going to the above mentioned estate to steal, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168 (d) criminal law of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015.”

 

COUNT II:”That you, Orji  Charles, on the same date, place and time in the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully use a Toyota car key to open the driver’s door of one black coloured Toyota Hilux with registration NO. APP 491 GN belonging to one Ogunleye Abimbola, with intent to commit felony therein, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 308 (2) criminal law of Lagos Nigeria 2015.”

 

He pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since the defendant pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A.Popoola, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 9th January, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
