Opeyemi Olushola Ogungbe did not realized that his sexual orientation, which is different from what is acceptable in the Nigerian society, would put his life in danger, but before he realized this, it’s too late.
Speaking with P.M. EXPRESS, Opeyemi revealed that his gay status has pitched him against some religious fanatics in Lagos who discovered him and his partner, Suleiman Balogun, but his lover was not alive to tell his story.
According to him, “I met Suleiman Balogun in my area in Palmgrove in Lagos on the faithful day I came back home from school. I lived 47, Ilupeju Street, Palmgrove Lagos.
” I saw Suleiman as charming, young and adorable man, and someone that would be fun to be with; I thought in my heart.
“Not long after we met, we started getting feelings for each order, and the secret dating which led to sexual intercourse with Suleiman in my house continued for a while until a brother of mine caught us on a faithful day and reported me to the family.
“I was forced to change meeting point with Suleiman at a hotel, City Point Hotel at Ebute Metta area.
“Unfortunately, one day, while we were having sex at the hotel, some people who I suspected to be Islamic fanatics, because of the kind of clothes they put on, broke into the hotel room with cutlasses and big sticks. They caught us red-handed.
“I was able to escape by the whisker. I jumped out of the room through the hotel window, but my hand and leg were stabbed. I didn’t know what befell my partner until the following day when I was told that Suleiman has been killed in the hotel.
“I had to flee the area and ran for my dear life. I am too scared to go back to my family house because my family members have known my sexual orientation which they vowed to expose me if I ever come home.”
