A 44-year old man, Owolabi Onakoya has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for allegedly chasing his wife, Esther Onakoya with cutlass in an attempt to kill her over her property in Lagos.
The incident happened at 40, Ola Jesu Street in Agodo Egbe, a suburb of Lagos where the couple reside.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Owolabi, who is unemployed, had asked his wife to sell her landed property so that he could raise money to start a new business since his former business had collapsed.
The wife, it was learnt, refused and told him that she will not take such risk as there was no guarantee that what happened to his previous investment due to his lifestyle might not reoccur should she sell the land and give him money.
This led to an exchange of words between the couple and in the process Owolabi reportedly brought out a cutlass to attack her and while she fled, he pursued her to the street.
The matter was reported to the police and Owolabi was arrested and detained at the station.
At the station, he told the police that since they were married and had three children, he only asked her to do what he requested for the benefit of the entire family and she then started insulting him.
Owolabi was charged to court for threatening to kill his wife with cutlass under the Criminal code.
He pleaded not guilty .
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E Adeyemi granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Owolabi was then remanded in prison custody pending when he perfect his bail condition .
The matter was adjourned till 25 April 2017.
