Nigerian Youths Remain The Nation’s Greatest Asset For Development —Dangote

Posted on December 9, 2025
Foremost industrialist and President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote has described Nigerian youths as the nation’s greatest asset emphasizing their creativity, resilience and ingenuity.
Dangote made these remarks at the weekend while being conferred with an honorary doctorate degree in Management Technology (D.MT) by the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
He said Nigerian youths are endowed with innovative spirit and could hold their own anywhere around the globe.
The philanthropist who was represented by his Special Adviser, Engr. Mansur Ahmed, commended the Federal University of Technology Owerri for its critical role alongside other universities in unlocking the potential of the youths.
According to him, at FUTO, “knowledge is not only acquired but applied to solve real societal challenges, from unemployment to infrastructure gaps. This blend of learning and problem-solving is precisely what our nation needs as it stands at a defining moment in its history.
He said, “We face significant economic and social challenges, but we also sit on enormous opportunity: a young and energetic population, abundant natural resources, and an entrepreneurial spirit that is unmatched across the continent. In my own journey through business and industry, entrepreneurship has shown itself to be one of the most powerful tools for transforming challenges into opportunities. When young people are equipped with technical skills, mentorship, and access to capital, they do not just seek jobs—they create them. They build enterprises that diversify our economy beyond oil, strengthen local industries, and fuel sustainable development.”
Dangote added, “this is why I strongly believe in forging deeper ties between the private sector and institutions like FUTO. The Dangote Group stands ready to partner in ways that bring together education, technology, and enterprise—supporting research, nurturing startups, and enabling innovation that responds directly to Nigeria’s most pressing needs. Together, we can build an ecosystem that supports creativity, rewards hard work and positions our country as a hub for Africa’s economic resurgence.”
Addressing the graduating students, he said that from his experience, three values, among which are integrity, hard work and discipline remain essential to success. He charged the graduands to always remember that their names remain their most valuable assets and must always protect it at all costs. Talent, he said, “opens the door, but consistency is what takes you across the finish line. True wealth is measured not in accumulation, but in the number of lives touched and improved.
“As you move forward, dream boldly but start grounded. Be ready to work hard, remain disciplined, and hold fast to your principles. Nigeria’s future will be shaped by those who do not wait for change but create it.”
He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Council, Senate, and Management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, for this honour adding that the gesture has strengthened his resolve to continue investing in the nation’s growth, supporting education, and championing initiatives that build a more prosperous and self-reliant Africa.
