MFM striker, Clement Ogwu has explained why his team buried Kano Pillars on Sunday in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at Agege Stadium.

Prior to the match against Pillars, MFM had lost 0-1 to Enyimba Football Club of Aba which spurred them to go out to defeat Pillars 3-1 on Sunday in a match watched by a mammoth crowd.

Ogwu who scored two goals out of three against Pillars on Sunday told PM EXPRESS that his colleagues decided to win the game because of the defeat suffered in the hands of Enyimba in the mid week game. He revealed that the victory against Pillars was necessary to ease the tension among Lagos football fans who have been supporting the club since inception.

“We are hungry for success after Enyimba defeat. We talked to ourselves in the camp and we promised our fans that we will win our next match against Pillars. When the match started, Pillars scored first and the fans thought it was all over but with God on our side we came out victorious at the end of the game.

“It was a tough match for us but I used my experience to utilize my chances which gave us  the needed victory. I think the fans are beginning to rely on us now and as we are going to face Pillars this weekend in Kano, we will get a good result,”  he said.

Ogwu who scored four goals so far in the league said he will repeat what he did on Sunday when both team clash in the reverse fixtures at the Sanni Abacha Stadium this weekend, boasting that MFM will shock Pillars at home.

“I want to score against Pillars in Kano. We are going there with high expectations and nothing can stop us from getting good result in Kano. We saw what they were capable to do in Lagos and we will capitalize on their mistakes to shock them at home. Let our fans continue to pray for us so that we can come out victorious,” he said.
