Obasa Youth Games Lights Up Lagos Schools As Student-athletes Fight For Laurels

The ongoing Obasa Youth Games 2025 has been the talk of the town since it started in phases across the Education Districts in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria earlier this week.

 

For the first time in the history of the competition, which debuted a few years ago, all the six Education Districts in Lagos are participating with enthusiasm seeing on the faces of the students who are eagerly competing to win laurels.

 

According to Moshood Olawale, chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of Obasa Games, more than 10,000 student-athletes are taking part in the weeklong competition which has been scheduled to end on 25 November 2025 at the Agege Township Stadium.

He said the tournament was designed to move across all the districts in Lagos State from District 1 to the sixth district after which there will be a grand finale at the Agege Stadium.

 

Shonaike Kehinde, Head of Athletics, Obasa Games described the tournament as an opportunity for the students to combine academics with sports, adding that the Super Eagles of Nigeria player, Victor Osimhen, is a living testimony of a student who combined education with sports to achieve greatness in life.

“The combination of education and sports is good for the overall well-being of the students,” Shonaike said.

 

One of the athletes, Solomon Abiodun, an Senior Secondary School (SS3)  wants to win parting gold medals in his sports as he would not have the opportunity of featuring in the championship again.
