Olaosebikan Urges Akpabio To Institute Health Insurance For National Assembly Correspondents
A former Commissioner for Health and Environment in Kwara State, and public health practitioner, Dr Bola Olaosebikan, has urged the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to Institute Insurance cover for all the Correspondents covering the national assembly.
Olaosebikan, in a statement issued by his media office in Lagos on Tuesday, was reacting to the sudden death of the Tribune Correspondent, Tijani Adeyemi, who slumped and died recently.
The former commissioner, who commended the Senate President for his visit to the late Adeyemi’s family to commiserate with them, urged him to ensure that the family Adeyemi left behind did not suffer.
Olaosebikan, who commiserated with the Adeyemi’s family, said the insurance cover is very important for the correspondents because of the nature of their assignments, which, according to him, is very demanding.
He, however, said such a gesture will go a long way to help the family of the deceased in case of eventuality.
Olaosebikan offers prayers for the repose of the soul of Adeyemi and the fortitude for the family and his loved ones to bear the irreplaceable loss.
Olaosebikan also urged members of the public to endeavour to have annual medical check up at standard medical establishment.
He explained that regular check of blood pressure can safe lives, and also checking blood sugar level often to prevent diabetes and sudden health complications.
“I urge Nigerians to reduce stress because stress is the mother of distress. Stress level should be reduced at various levels from individual, to family, community, organization and institutional level “Nigerians should also take healthy foods always to enjoy strong and optimum health to mitigate the effects of daily stress and exhaustion from work and daily activities,” he added.
