On Edo Festival Day 5, Lagos Boxers Make Steady Progress, As Athletes Win More Medals

Donatus Chinedu of Team Lagos won silver medal in Wushu Kungful on Wednesday

Lagos boxers have continued to show the stuff they are made of in the ongoing Edo 2020 National Sports Festival holding in Benin City as they secured victories on Day 5 of the national tournament on Wednesday.


Fighting in 69kg category, Team Lagos’ Abdulafeez Osoba defeated Omotola Timilehin in 5-0 unanimous decision of the referees. It was a battle that ended in TKO.

Lagos’s Gabriel Francis fighting in the 91kg category also beat Kariyau David of Bayelsa. P.M EXPRESS reports that the bout ended in another TKO.


Afolabi Shittu won his 52kg bout against Nwanuku Lucky 5-0 to progress to the next round.

Lagos player in storming session in Chess event


In the female 54kg bout, Adijat Gbadamosi of Lagos won her fight against Anuoluwapo Akanni of Kebbi State 5-0 to qualified for the quarter final.

Meanwhile, more medals were hauled in for Lagos State in some sports decided on Day 5. Though Sukurat Abdulsalam lost her taekwondo semi final fight, she however settled for bronze medal.


Adeyanju Adebukola fighting in -78kg judo event won a silver medal. Donatus Chinedu won silver medal in male nandao event of Wushu Kungfu. He won the silver after he garnered 6.03 points in the fight.

In other results of Day 5, Lagos female football team played 2-2 draw against Team Delta, while the handball game was also drew against FCT 25-25. Ibrahim Bashir of Team Lagos beat Kaduna in the 65kg Kokowa event to qualify for the semi final in the category.

In Squash Team event, Lagos State defeated Team Ogun 3-0 to qualify for the semi final game scheduled for Thursday at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium. They will face Delta State by 9am.

Despite his busy schedules, the Director, Technical of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Travih Nunayon and Mrs. Odibeli Nkechi , the Head of coaches (both in middle) were on ground to cheer up Team Lagos athletes during their Taolu event on Wednesday.
