Ondo 2020: We’ll Ensure Akeredolu’s Campaign Is Accident and COVID-19 Free, Says Prof Odimayo

As Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC) is preparing to kick off its campaign for the October 10 gubernatorial election, the newly inaugurated Medical Committee of Akeredolu Campaign Organisation has promised to take all precautions necessary to curtail the spread of any infectious disease, most especially, COVID- 19 during the campaign. 


According to the Committee, all protocols necessary for the prevention of spread of COVID-19 will be observed during the  louder than words, one-month electioneering campaign that will hold across the 18 local government council areas in Ondo, including during the flag off and closing ceremony in Akure, the state capital.  

According to the chairman of the 19-man Medical Committee, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, the medical team is made up of experienced personnel in medical and media profession, who are committed to their professional callings of ensuring protection, guidance, prevention and dissemination of  information.

  Odimayo said: “The medical team will be at every campaign point before the arrival of the Governor and his entourage to give basic treatments and educate people on the necessary protocols for prevention of infectious diseases, particularly the ravaging, COVID-19 pandemic “

Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, who was first sworn in as the Governor of Ondo State on February 24, 2017 is seeking re-election for a second term with his running mate, Mr Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa in the 10 October election. 

The Medical Committee is one of the 15 committees set up and inaugurated by the APC Campaign Council for the election. 


During the inauguration, the Director General of  Akeredolu re-election campaign council, Right Honourable Victor Olabimitan appealed to party members to wear their face masks at every campaign meetings and rallies.

He also admonished the medical committee to give campaigns attendees free medical checkup and to be prompt in the discharge of their duties in cases of emergencies and accidents.


In his remarks during the inauguration, the State Chairman of APC, Engineer Ade Adetimehin, declared that Arakunrin Akeredolu’s sterling performance in the last three years leave no stone unturned for his victory in the coming election.


Vice President  Yemi Osinbajo, National Caretaker Committee Chairman of APC and the Governor of Yobe State, Malam Mai Buni, National Leader of APC,  Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pioneer chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Odigie Oyegun, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, all APC State Governors,  ministers, ambassadors, lawmakers are among those expected to witness the flag off of the campaign.

President Muhammad Buhari is expected to attend the  closing ceremony of the campaign on October 8.
