The Asisat Oshoala Academy in less than a year and a half has produced a World Cup player for Nigeria.

Janet Seimenya who is just 16 years old is the youngest player from the Asisat Oshoala Academy to represent Nigeria at the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

Seimenya has attracted top offers from the Saudi Arabia women’s soccer league, Nigeria women’s clubside delta queens, Remo Ladies, Nasarawa Queens and Danaz ladies are a few who have approached the young star but turned down those deals to focus on the World Cup.

Seimenya who scored 2 goals for the Super Falconets of Nigeria en route qualifications for the World Cup will be hoping to lead Nigeria to victory in their team game in Colombia at the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

“I just want to say a big thank you to our CEO Asisat Oshoala for the platform and our sporting director Mr Tobi Peters who scouted me on the street of Lagos and his immense support, I never thought it was going to be a very easy journey but all thanks to God almighty, my dad had always say he will enroll me into school of police 👮‍♀️ in few years because is a retired police officer but am so happy God did it” Seimenya said.

Nigeria has been drawn in Group D alongside the Korea Republic, Germany, and Venezuela. The Falconets will play their opening match against the Korean Republic on September 1 at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota, followed by a clash with Germany on September 4th.

The Asisat Oshoala Academy, an initiative of award-winning Nigerian woman footballer Asisat Oshoala, aims to build upon the footballer’s mission of providing access to sports and education for young girls in her community.

The Asisat Oshoala Academy (AOA) is designed to provide marginalized schoolgirls in Nigeria and the rest of the African continent access to football and life skills.

The Asisat Oshoala Academy provides girls (ages 12 – 18) access to 90 minutes of football training thrice a week.
