Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have busted five students of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu Campus, for their alleged involvement in cult activities in the school.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the arrested suspects were Winner Emmanuel, 20, Ologunro Tawaz, 21, Abdulbasit Oluwatobi, 25, Olamide Yusuf, 22 and Okagbare Abel, 26.
The suspects were said to have been arrested for terrorizing the students in the campus through their cult activities.
While Abel was said to belong to Eiye Confraternity, the rest of the suspects were said to belong to Buccaneers Confraternity and were causing violence in the campus.
Their activities led to a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, who directed the Police Tactical Squad to apprehend the suspects. Five of them were therefore, arrested and detained at  the Command for interrogation over their alleged conduct while others managed to escape.
During interrogation, they confessed that they belonged to an unlawful society. Thus, the Police found them culpable and consequently consequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace by belonging to an unlawful society, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, they pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O Osunsanmi, granted them bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
They were remanded in custody at the correctional center in Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while the matter was adjourned for mention.
