MICHAEL AKINOLA

The arrest of a woman, Mrs. Florence Douglas and a female agent, Gift Michael, has indeed revealed that there were real human traffic syndicates operating between Ogun and Lagos States.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Police intelligence officers at Ejigbo Division led by the DPO, CSP Olabisi Okuwobi, intercepted and rescued a two weeks old baby hidden inside a nylon bag to be delivered to a yet to be identified buyer.
It was gathered that the lady, Gift, was seen at Prince Bus Stop, Ijegun area of Lagos, with the baby. She was trailed, the Police were given a tip off and she was apprehended at Jakande gate.

Upon interrogation, she could not state clearly who owned the baby and she was then detained at Ejigbo Police Division for further investigation.
It was gathered that in the course of investigation, the Police discovered many photographs of new babies suspected to have been stolen and sold by the syndicate.
In the process, Gift reportedly linked Mrs. Florence Douglas, who owned two maternity homes in Ijegun Road in Ijegun and Ijegemo area of Lagos, in the deal. She also mentioned another woman, identified as Nike, resident in Ajunwo area of Ogun State, who actually gave her the baby to be delivered to Mrs. Florence to sell.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that when Mrs. Florence was arrested and detained at the Station, then Police operatives moved to Ajunwo in Ogun State with the other suspect, Gift. But before they got to her place, Nike had parked all her belongings and vacated the flat.

It was gathered that while the Police were making efforts to arrest Nike, whom Gift alleged gave her the baby, Police operatives from State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, SCIID, Panti Yaba, sent signal to Ejigbo Police Division to transfer the matter. Thus, the DPO then transferred both the case file and the suspected stolen baby for further investigation.
However, there was a twist to the whole matter when P.M.EXPRESS correspondent visited the maternity homes. The residents expressed shock how the whole thing had turned in favour of the suspects.
They claimed that the suspects may have been released including the baby because there was no sign that the Police wanted to further investigate the matter which was yet to verified by our correspondent.
When our correspondent contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, he did not respond rather his known phone number indicated number busy.
