Police Summons U.S-Based Musician, Aguike Over PMAN Crisis

Posted on February 6, 2025

United States-based Nigerian musician, Aguike popularly known as Allah Bama, has been summoned by the Nigeria Police Force for questioning over his alleged involvement in a case of cyberstalking, intimidation, and threats to life.

The development comes after Aguike publicly disassociated self from Pretty Okafor’s leadership of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, PMAN and apologized to his colleagues.

Aguike claims the accusations are baseless and that he’s been targeted for speaking out against Okafor’s leadership.

He alleged that Okafor has used intimidation tactics against musicians questioning his authority, including accusations of mismanaging funds exceeding N800 million.

The police invitation, dated January 27, 2025, requested Aguike’s presence for an interview, but he declined, citing incorrect information on the invitation letter and his residence in the United States.

Aguike maintains that he’s an American citizen and doesn’t reside in Nigeria, making it impossible for him to honor the invitation.

The letter reads: “This Bureau is investigating a case involving cyberstalking, intimidation, and threats to life, in which your name is prominently mentioned.

“In light of the above, you are invited for an interview with the Commissioner of Police, Special Enquiry Bureau (SEB), FCID, Abuja, through Detective Lydia Ozoemena on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 11:00 am in Room 106, Ground Floor, FCID Complex, Area 10, Garki, Abuja.

“This invitation is in accordance with law enforcement requirements as specified in Section 53 (2) (a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.”

Unfortunately, Aguike, who resides in the United States, is yet to honour the invitation.

But reacting to the development, Aguike said “Last week, I issued a statement formally disassociating myself from Pretty Okafor, who claims to be the ‘President of PMAN.

“A week later, I received an invitation based on baseless accusations supposedly reported to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, and signed by CP Emmanuel Ade Aina.”

“Upon receiving this invitation, which instructs me to attend an interview with the Police Commissioner, I declined to comply.

“The name on the letter is incorrect, and the address listed does not belong to me. As an American citizen, an internationally acclaimed musician, and an award-winning media personality, I do not reside in Nigeria; my home is in New York City.

“For the past 11 years, Okafor has used intimidation tactics against any Nigerian musician questioning his authority over PMAN. This includes accusations related to the sale of significant land and the mismanagement of funds exceeding 800 million Naira.

“He has falsely accused me of cyberstalking, intimidation, and making threats against his life, while the opposite may be true. I have been targeted following the publication of my op-ed titled “PMAN: Between Greed, Corruption, and Leadership,” Aguike said in a statement made available to newsmen.”

Recall that Aguike, a vocal supporter of Pretty Okafor, the President of PMAN recently reversed his stance, acknowledging that he was misled about the state of the union.

He admitted to supporting Okafor based on incomplete information, claiming he was unaware of the numerous challenges facing PMAN.
