The Rhythm Of Wizkid #VIPExperience Concert
FUNSHO AROGUNDADE
On Wednesday night, Nigeria’s Star boy, Wizkid held the first of his two end-of-the-year-concerts in Lagos and he glittered with energetic performance that has further validated his status as one of the few Africa’s talents that easily hugged headlines on the global stage.
The exclusive event tagged #WizkidVIPExperience hosted at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos had in attendance some of Nigeria’s elite and provided a cool calm ambiance to go with the non-stop entertainment provided by Wizkid.
Star Lager, the beer brand which is the first to be locally brewed in Nigeria, threw its weight behind the musician as he thrilled thousands of fans at the prestigious concert haven.
Wizkid dressed in a pink jacket and matching pants opened the long night gig and served his guests the hot ‘stew’ sounds of the hit tracks ‘Sweet Love’, ‘Fever’ and ‘Come Closer’ in quick succession amidst light banters.
Though started very late (close to midnight), the show, however, did not disappoint, with Star Boy providing an electric performance that will live long in the memories of all in attendance.
Afropop diva Tiwa Savage led the train of supporting performers who upped the ante at the show and ensured it lived up to its A-rating.
The Mavin’s First lady had some tantilising moments on stage with Wizkid who called Tiwa “a very special woman” and they both excited the audience with their electrified performance of ‘Maalo’.
Bad girl but very talented singer Teni Makanaki was also on hand to drop some of her hits especially ‘Case’ while Wizkid called out Chinko Tiger to join him on stage and they performed ‘Able God’. Dammy Krane also got an opportunity to reconnect with Lagos fun seekers aftermath of his ‘trouble’ with the law in the United States.
British rapper, Skepta wrapped the list of guest artistes as he later joined Wizkid to perform Energy (Stay Far Away).
At the height of the show, Wizkid caused a bit of uproar when he asked the fans at the regular section to move to the front of the stage but begged them not to jump on the tables nor attempt to display the well-heeled fun seekers who shelled out millions to buy the tables.
With no more barrier, the concert became one huge party as he got more energetic reaction he sought as he followed with more hit songs including ‘Daddy Yo’, ‘Tease Me’, ‘Baba Nla’. He later introduced talented producer and singer, Maleek Berry on stage with whom they performed ‘The Matter’.
At a point,a thrilled fan raced to the stage to feel the vibe with Wizkid, he however stopped the bouncers from taking the fan off the stage as they danced Zanku together.
Despite the high fees with the lowest going for N25,000 and the maximum N5 million yet it was a total shutdown as the Eko Convention centre was filled to the brim.
The show was absolutely classy and considering the crowd control issues that have plagued many Lagos shows, this was a rather unique offering, as it provided fans the opportunity to experience the Afro-pop sensation without the typical hordes of fans at his concerts.
A reveler at the concert was so impressed by Wizkid’s performance and wished a lot of other artistes should actually learn from Wizkid when it comes to live performances and how the music star gave fans the opportunity to vocal most of the songs.
Ace comedian, Basketmouth was a perfect host as took control of the show and dropped some ‘baddest’ jokes to enliven the guests.
