The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has launched the “Inform Women, Transform Lives” Campaign of the Carter Centre for the City of Lagos.
In his address at the event held recently in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu said the “Inform Women, Transform Lives Campaign” was conceived to ensure that women can seek and receive information from all tiers of Governments irrespective of their status, tribe and religion, noting that the theme for the City of Lagos advocacy is “Gender Equality and Inclusivity”.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said the State Government will raise awareness on where and how women can easily get information about city services that would benefit them.
He told journalists that the Lagos State Government participated in the Carter Centre competition with other 300 Cities across the globe and was among the few that got selected for the “Inform Women, Transform Lives” programme of the Foundation.
The Carter Centre is a non-governmental organisation helping to improve the lives of people in more than 80 countries by resolving conflicts, advancing democracy and human rights, preventing diseases and improving mental health care.
The Carter Centre was founded in 1982 by Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States and his wife, Mrs. Rosalyn Carter.
Commenting on the victory of Lagos State at the competition, Salu-Hundeyin attributed this to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s passion and dedication to gender equality and social inclusivity as demonstrated under the T.H.E.M.E.S. PLUS agenda and evidenced by the fact that the Governor is a ‘HEforShe’ United Nations Ambassador.
She also commended the contributions of the Ministries of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Information and Strategy, Youth and Social Development and Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment as well as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matters, Mrs. Bukky Odoe for the success of the City of Lagos.
The highlights of how the State would implement the programme were also explained to journalists, women groups and female students.
During the questions and answers session, lights were thrown on modalities of implementation of the programme while the media was enjoined to create the needed awareness on Lagos City’s “Inform Women, Transform Lives” in order to fully make a difference in the lives of women and to achieve the objective of the Carter Centre in the City of Lagos.
In attendance at the launch were Commissioners of Information and Strategy, Youths and Social Development and Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment, Permanent Secretaries from various Ministries, Non-Governmental Organisations, Students and Entrepreneurs among others.
