A 35-year old man, Henry Onyebuchi Ezenwa has been arrested and charged before a Lagos Magistrate’s court for attempting to strangle his aged mother, Mrs Bernadette Ezenwa to death in her house in Lagos.
The incident happened at 2 Ademola Crescent, Alagbodo, Lagos where Onyebuchi, who is still single, resides with his parents.
According to Police, on 12 November 2016 at about 10.00am, the suspect secretly grabbed and held his mom on her neck to strangle her.
While he was attempting to snuff life off her, the woman raised an alarm before he could achieve his sinister mission. This attracted their neighbours who rushed to their apartment and saved her life.
She was taken away from the house to a safe place and the matter was reported to the police at Idimu Area Command, who trailed and later arrested Onyebuchi. He was then detained at the Command.
During the investigation, the victim lamented that she and members of their family had not known peace for several years over the suspect’s attitude.
She pleaded to the police to do whatever they like with Onyebuchi as she no longer wanted him in the family for peace to reign, Onyebuchi at the same time was not remorseful over his action.
On the day the incident happened, he reportedly returned home heavily drunk and grabbed the mom to kill before she was rescued.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Onyebuchi is the third child in the family of four children by his parents, the remaining three are graduates and have settled down except him.
According to the mother, they asked him to go to school, he refused but told them he wanted to deal in used tyres business which they supported him financially. He however failed in growing the business and returned back to the family house empty.
The parents again supported him to start other businesses which also failed woefully.
He later became violent and indulged in drinking and smoking.
Police sources said because of his attitude and character, he was abandoned by other members of the family to his fate and he now faced his parents.
Onyebuchi was arraigned for attempting to strangle his mom, a conduct likely to cause breach of public peace under the Criminal Code.
He pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola granted Onyebuchi bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.
The matter was adjourned till 23 January 2017.
