Of The Stable And Unstable Ngor Okpala Politicians ➖ It Is Simply A Game Of Thrones
MAZI EJIMOFOR OPARA
What the proponents of “Okenze must join National Politics” have not told us is the real truth behind their witless agitation. I recall the case between Wike and Amaechi, where Wike had at some point in 2014, derided Gov Amaechi for sending him to Abuja as a Minister of State for Education and later the Supervising Minister of Education, claiming it was a ploy to make him lose touch with his grassroot support base in Rivers State. As an antidote to Amaechi’s game plan, Wike, who was then nursing the ambition to succeed Amaechi, took the tenuous route of shuttling Abuja and Rivers State every weekend of his over 24 months of serving in the National cabinet of GEJ. This tells you one thing, every politics is local.
Against the erroneous belief that Abuja politics is the apex of political participation in the country, it is incontrovertible that the real deal is domiciled in the ability of a political gladiator to conquer and surmount the local hurdles of his ward, LGA and State. Abuja politics is merely an icing on the cake. Too many of us prefer eating the well baked “oven” processed cake to the sickening icing that is a dispensable appendage of the whole enchilada. Show me any 100% Abuja or “National” politician and I will show you a politician who constantly loses his polling booth, ward and LGA.
The misplaced accusations against an Okenze Obinna for failing to pander to the whims and caprices of certain failed “local champions” is, in itself, an affirmation of his undisputed place in our political calculus as an LGA. However he mobilizes support to win these serial contestants and their lilliputians remain a source of bewilderment to this current band of political “latter day Saints”. I concede that given similar circumstances, I would prate like Cajetan Duke. Imagine been gifted with a car, that he couldn’t get way after clocking 30 years of age, when some younger boys had driven better cars before same age – I mean boys whose subsistence are not attached to political hero worship and bootlicking. Cajetan now prides in his “all knowing” political gamesmanship and has become the ultimate decider of the of level politics any interested politician should play per time.
To Cajetan and his colony of striving politicians, politics is akin to a school or career, where one must ascend to predetermined levels within stipulated time frames – what an absurdity. For them in that school of thought, and their “stable” Principals whom they speak for, Okenze has stayed longer than necessary and must quit for them to holdsway. But, I thought in politics we all must aim for “Abuja” and quit according to our length of stay on a particular political scene. Yet, Caje is blinded by the failed hegemony of his new Boss, who has continued to scamper for the same Local relevance since the onset of this democratic dispensation. When one plays “National” politics to the point of being the Deputy Director, Media and Publicity of a Presidential Campaign Organization, should we not assume that he has reached his political crescendo and must give way to fresher bloods like me (laughs) who can do better in such strategic position?
Will it be safe to state that some of these self acclaimed political overlords had earned their previous positions for want of better alternatives and in observance of the Federal Character nonsense? Back home, it baffles me to read people comment on the personal decisions of one man who has chosen to define his stand according to the prevailing political reality. Trust me, if Okenze decides to support an Owerri zone ticket today, a TOE, for instance, would play the converse. This is not too complex a political reality to comprehend. It is simply a game of thrones, and the superior strategy would always have the day. The same local politics Okenze must quit, is the same that has given rise to the untimely “Immerienwe Declaration”. What exactly is the point here?
“Chineke na pu ekwensu ike, o ga enye gi ya?”
The question of being stable or unstable in politics is largely relative to every individual’s political interest and linen. Today, many of us, including Cajetan and all other proponents of STRONG VOICE, want the return of PMB, does it follow that our decision is the sanest or most plausible? This is Politics, we all know it is not a “charity organization” or a non-profit venture. Even, Caje is hanging on to TOE for the overall benefit of his personal well-being – take that away and watch him pounce on TOE more ferociously than he is currently feasting on Okenze. I Do not blame Caje, but question the content of his indoctrination carefully written by Oga TOE. How unstable can one be when Matthew Nwaogu is yet to recover from the most gruesome instability wrought on him by his supposed party man in 2015. What was Attorney Matthew’s offence that made a TOE betray him to the benefit of one of the greatest political errors of Aboh Mbaise /Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency – Bede Eke. Yet, we must listen to Caje’s sermon on “Unstable Politicians”. Hypocrisy is a cardinal sin.
