Strike: ASUU Places Members On Red Alert As Meeting With FG Shifted To Next Week

Posted on November 21, 2025

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has placed its members across the public universities in Nigeria on red alert as the deadline given to the government of Ahmed Bola Tinubu ended on Thursday, 20 November 2025.

A notice sent by a chapter of ASUU in one of the universities in the southwest region of Nigeria has enjoined members to wait for the final directive as the federal government has not yielded fully to all the demands of the union.

The notice reads: “There have been enquiry on what our next line of action would be vis a vis our ongoing national struggle, especially given the proviso that today (20th November 2025) marks the end of the one-month ultimatum given to the Federal Government by the Union.

“Please note that we just received the notification from our national leadership that a meeting, which couldn’t hold as earlier scheduled, has been fixed to hold next week (Tuesday or Wednesday as the case may be) and we have been mandated to appeal to our members to wait earnestly for the outcome of this meeting.

“Since Government’s offer hitherto is a far cry from the envisaged parameters, we are hereby admonished to wait for the final directive which may come after the scheduled meeting.

“By this release therefore, members have been duly briefed of the latest development regarding our struggle.”

On Tuesday, the lecturers’ union, ASUU threatened to declare an indefinite strike from Friday, claiming that the government had failed to address the outstanding issues within a month-long window, granted after an earlier warning strike, which has now closed.
