The Nation Confirms That Soludo’s Free Education Is Qualitative!
MAZI EJIMOFOR OPARA PhD
This award is significant in more ways than just a mere victory for the education sector in Anambra State. One dimension of significance is the validation of Governor Soludo’s thesis on public education, which was the least performing prior to his assumption of office in 2022. The other is the national acclaim received by Soludo’s reforms in human capital development — a revolution has begun, marking Anambra’s journey to becoming the Taiwan of Africa, where competitive individuals are developed for local productivity and global relevance.
Anambra has four categories of schools namely;
— Public-Public Schools (owned and managed by the State Government)
— Public-Mission Schools (owned by communities and managed by the church)
— Mission Schools (Parochial schools owned by the church)
— Private Schools
Of these four categories, the public-public schools are the schools directly under the Management of the State. Before Soludo 90% of these schools were decrepit, poorly funded and without Teachers. So, it was inconceivable that they stood any chance for mention, let alone winning a National and most coveted award. Yesterday’s award where a public-public school in Woliwo, Onitsha won the OVERALL Best School in Nigeria is indicative of a new normal.
This a school where children of the poor are taught for free. What this means is that Soludo’s free education is qualitative in spite of the massive increase in enrollment into these schools due directly to the free education provided by government in public-public schools.
Using education as an opportunity equalizer, Soludo has bequeathed to generations of Anambra Children a chance to dominate the world. An opportunity that no one can truly quantify!
Anambra is truly Rising!
