The increasing economic hardship, pressures, and the desire to meet up one’s needs have contributed immensely to people’s health issues. We are affected by influences far remote from our immediate circle of life. The whole world has been reduced to a global village, and what happens to one individual may affect all. The unfortunate situation emanates from the fact that there is a huge gap between the wealthy people. average people and the less privileged.
The thinking of not having steady work, the children are not too well, and my wife is unhappy, lead to worry. Other challenges like failed relationships, loss of jobs, and couples faced with infertility have a great interference with their behavioural changes and social activities.
All these can result in a stressful life, which in extension can negatively affect mental health and contribute to depression.
Depression is a minor mental illness that involves the brain. It is characterized not only by negative thoughts, mood, sadness, and behaviours but also by specific changes in bodily functions.
People suffering from depression usually find it difficult to sleep.
Depression can run in families and basically starts from adolescents. It is much more common in women than in men.
Symptoms include persistent sadness, loss of interest, or pleasure in activities you are used to, change in weight, unable to have a good sleep, feeling of worthlessness, helplessness, and hopelessness. Others include problems with eating, lack of energy, loss of interest in sex, anxiety, body aches, waxy flexibility, loss of memory, and difficulty concentrating.
The preventive measures to take in addressing depression depend on the root cause of the health issue.
We must project our lives out to others. Centring one’s attention on self and living for self is dangerous to our health. We must understand that to live for others is the greatest privilege and the highest joy that can come to anyone. When people are busy helping others, they hardly notice their minor challenges and pain. We must find something to live for and help others and look after their need is the biggest joy and the road map to solving our own problem.
We must learn to address problems with constructive thinking. First, write down the problem, and follow by writing down the possible solutions to the problem. This is to proceed by counting the cost of each solution and selecting the most promising ones. Finally, we make up our minds and notify those concerned what plan we propose to follow.
