University Education Isn’t For Kids…!
University education is meant for adults, though the changing times have seen 16 and 17 year olds gain admittance into the system, what is important is that the University/Tertiary education is not for kids. Where Parents fail to build their kids from primary to secondary education, it becomes difficult to carryout out any major character repairs when they graduate to Tertiary levels.
To make matters worse, the current toll of systemic hardship has reversed family roles. Today, you have children sending major remittances home for their Parents to, at least feed. Majority of Students in our Universities today are self sustained. In fact, I know many who can’t go home because they have to work to ensure the survival of “home”. Are these the category of children you want to report to their “parents?” What really is parenting?
Young people in this generation are actually the most resilient. They have been given a present that is very unpleasant. They are working to make sure the future is not as bleak as what they have. What they now do as “work” becomes relative to who is defining, and the environment they find themselves.
There is a night life with activities that must end with the night. I mean, who stopped Fela? The Shrine in Ikeja today has become a Tourist attraction. If you close locations where night life shenanigans are displayed, would you also close the minds of its major actors from depravity?
