Posted on February 28, 2025

Seasoned educationist and grassroots politician, Mrs Soaga Abiola Taibat, has been speaking on why she is contesting for the chairmanship position of Ikorodu North LCDA.

With over 28 years of experience in politics and livelihood in Ikorodu, Mrs Soaga is well-versed in the community’s needs and wants. As a woman leader and role model, she aims to bring about positive change in the area.

“I am running the chairmanship race of Ikorodu North LCDA, I am very close to them and am aware of the communities’ needs and wants,” stated Mrs Soaga.

Soaga’s major focus areas include primary healthcare, education, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and social welfare. She emphasizes the importance of women empowerment in politics, highlighting that no woman has held the chairmanship position in Ikorodu North LCDA since its creation.

“This is why we are here to break the limits and boundaries. Women should be given a chance, it’s our turn,” she said.

When asked about her familiarity with the communities in her LCDA, Mrs Soaga noted that she is aware of the peculiar needs of the five political wards: Odongunyan, Isiwu, Agbala, Erikorodo, and Olohunda.

As an educationist, she aims to positively influence the educational sector, particularly through the “Operation Leave No Child Behind” movement: “We need to catch them young so that they can be useful for their community and Nigeria at large,” she said.

Soaga has received overwhelming support from her community, who appreciate her leadership abilities. She believes that her transparency and integrity set her apart from other contestants. If elected, Abiola promises to deliver credible and transparent governance, working closely with stakeholders to address community challenges.

In her words, Soaga said that; “My yes is yes and my no is no. Attitude is different from character, good attitude makes you have an edge over your contemporaries.”

Some of her key plans include training youth to be self-sufficient, partnering with the state’s educational body to train teachers, and supporting senior citizens through entertainment initiatives. Abiola is confident that, with teamwork, she can bring about significant positive change in Ikorodu North LCDA.

“If I am given the opportunity, I will not disappoint my people,” she assured.
