Abayomi Adelakun, a Fellow of Institute of chartered accountant of Nigeria (FCA), pastor at Foursquare Gospel Church, and aspirant for the chairmanship position of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, has shared the story of how God’s calling is propelling him to contest for the number one political seat in the local council in the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos State

Speaking to reporters, Adelakun, a former chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Igbogbo Bayeiku LCDA, also talked on how his political journey started.

“God told me to go and save the dying souls, but as a pastor and a man of God, I mistook it for evangelism,” he said. However, after preaching on buses for three times a week, Adelakun received further clarification from God. “A voice came back to me and said, ‘God said this is not the souls I’m calling you to save, I am talking about the dying souls, not the lost ones.'”

This revelation led Abayomi Adelakun to organize three (3) successful medical outreach programs across the five political wards between month of April and June 2024.

“Thank God for Alhaji Doctor Muktar Saka Adeshina who is a mentor to me, he encouraged and assisted me in getting drugs. We also got support from two doctors, one from LUTH and the other one from general hospital” Adelakun said.

“The three editions of the medical outreach had over 1500 participants, who were attended to and we treated people with special cases like high blood pressure and tuberculosis, I took them to the hospital and cared for them and returned them to their houses. I felt the joy inside me doing this” he noted.

After the success of his medical outreach in these communities Abayomi Adelakun was honored with the ‘IKORODU MAN OF THE YEAR’ award in 2024.

” After we completed the second edition of the outreach, I got a call from somebody that I should come to Ikorodu town hall. When I got there, I was asked if I was a politician or a local government chairman to be doing all that i have been doing. I told them that I was doing it because of what God told me and that was how they decided to honour me with the man of the year award in 2024″ he explained.

On his ambition to contest for the chairmanship position of Igbogbo Bayeiku LCDA, Adelakun, who was the chairman of the CDC in the local council, said has been specially prepared and trained for the upcoming task.

As a fellow of ICAN, Adelakun believes that his professional experience sets him apart from other aspirants.

“I have been a manager of human resources, and I have run my own accounting firm for over 20 years.”

Adelakun’s connection with the people of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA is also a key aspect of his campaign.

“My people have been agitating for me to contest for the chairmanship position, based on my impact and contributions to the community, especially when I was chairman of the CDC, bringing impactful and purposeful leadership to the populace.” he said.

But his decision to throw his hat into the political ring did not come as a walk in the park.

After seeking counsel from his senior pastors and seeking the face of God Adelakun received God’s assurance to proceed with the chairmanship race.

“Lord spoke to me that I should go, that He will be with me,” Abayomi said.

If elected as chairman, he plans to encourage children of education age, improve educational facilities because education is the bedrock of any development and best legacy that any parent can bequeath to any child, focus on completing and upgrading primary healthcare units, improving market areas, youth empowerment, see to the welfare of elderly, widow, people living with disabilities, create good environment and encourage entrepreneurship, maintain peace and security, uphold the rich cultural heritage, create enabling environment for tourist attractions along the coastal areas e.g Ibeshe, Bayeku, Offin/Oreta and empowering traders.

Abayomi Adelakun aims to expedite the development of the LCDA, assuring the people of igbogbo Baiyeku that, ” I will fast track the development of igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA” Abayomi in his words said you can always do small things in a great way”.
