Why We Must All Support President Tinubu!

TEMITOPE AJAYI

There is what economists and development experts call the ‘pains and gains’ of reforms. Just like someone who needs surgery to live: Surgery is painful, and that is why most people are afraid to go under the knives even if it is the last resort to keep them alive. But when surgery becomes successful and the pain begins to recede during the healing process, the person becomes buoyant as strength and vitality return to the human body, and life comes anew.

Just like surgery on the human body, reforms that will usher in sustainable economic growth and development and avert economic disaster come with the initial pains for citizens. They are necessary to avert deadly economic consequences. One thing about pains of reforms is that the gains are lost or don’t come at all when the reforms are abandoned or not followed through just because of momentary inconveniences. Our country is taking the right turn. We must stay the course. President Tinubu should be supported to steady the ship of state and anchor it safely.

The wonder that India, China, and Singapore have become today in terms of development and improved quality of life for their citizens came with pains. India and China, at a time in their history, locked themselves in to create their own model of development. They bore the inconveniences and hardship. They are reaping the benefits today in all spheres.

Like the President reiterated in his broadcast today, the reforms he has embarked upon are necessary for the economy to deliver long-term benefits to Nigerians. We can’t continue to seek short-term solutions that have not delivered real value. We are on the right path, and the indicators are clear and they are positive.
