A 47-year old woman, Kelly Ansa, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing Forklift spare parts valued N5,300,000.00 belonging to CHAO Motors.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the woman, who resides at Odukumaya Street in Lagos, allegedly committed the offence by stealing the items from where they were parked and sold them to an undisclosed person now at large.
According to the Police, the woman and others now at large, stole the spare parts and sold them without the knowledge of the complainant. However, the alleged theft was discovered when the company conducted an internal audit and discovered that the items were missing.
The woman, who was in charge of the items, was asked to know what happened to the items but she was unable to explain satisfactorily despite the fact that she was in charge of the spare parts.
The matter was reported to the Police at State Criminal Investigation Department of the Lagos State Command and the suspect was arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation over the missing items.
The Police found her culpable after interrogation and charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
COUNT 1: “That you, KELLY ANSA “F” of No. 23. Odukumaya Street, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire with others now at large to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offense contrary and punishable under Section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”
COUNT II: “That you, KELLY ANSA “F at the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal Forklift spare parts valued N5,300,000.00 (Five Million Three Hundred Thousand Naira Only) properties of CHAO Motors and thereby committed an offense contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Phillip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
