Changing jobs or looking for work has always been strenuous, especially when putting yourself in the often vulnerable position of submitting your CV to organisations with few vacancies and partaking in interviews with a high number of applicants.
Between 2020 – 2023, the job-hunting landscape and interview process changed drastically, essentially as a result of the internet and job placement agencies.
The difference between “then” and “now” is that we have bridged time and space by making optimum use of the internet and technology tools to widen our options, shorten our recruitment process and make our future brighter.
A simple click gives you global job listings that match your skills. Interviews are becoming more virtual than physical. In fact, skilled applicants now determine the terms of employment, thus, interviewing the recruiter than the other way round.
Have you noticed that Intelligence Quotient, Social Values, Emotional intelligence, and Cognitive Ability are replacing words like Years of Experience, Hobbies, Strength & Weakness when job interviews and responsibilities are discussed? They are now top among your most marketable skills.
The more relevant your skills are, the more attractive you’ll appear to hiring managers. While there are specific skills needed for each industry and job, there are also core competencies that span all professions and job responsibilities. These are considered vital employability skills essential to effective employment.
In a few years, employees with employability skills will be the ones drawing employment contracts for employers and determining the scope of service and reward.
What extra skills do you have besides reading and writing on Social Media?
