Youth Games: Team Lagos Make Progress Across Sports On Day 2

Apart from the big win from Florence Olarinoye who clinched three gold medals in the weightlifting on Sunday, Team Lagos also made impressive outings on Day 2 of the ongoing 7th National Youth Games holding in Asaba, Delta State.

Most of the sports competed for recorded results that have seen the Lagos team moving closer to the medal zone.

The female rugby team massacred their counterparts from Imo in a match that ended 10-0, paving the way for Team Lagos to qualify for the semifinal of the sport.

Trust Lagos football, the female and male teams showed what they are capable of doing when the female squad destroyed Delta in 5-0 grudge encounter to qualify for the semifinal stage, while the male team spanked Enugu 2-1 at the Ogwashi-Uku Stadium in Asaba. They have also qualified to the quarterfinals.

It was a knockout fight for Lagos young boxer, Bolarinwa Michael who stopped his opponent Asuquo Effiom from Cross Rivers. It was round one technical knockout that forced the referee to stop the bout.

In the cricket’s Lagos versus Sokoto match, while Team Sokoto won the toss and opted for field, Lagos team batted and scored 35 runs all out in 9.5 overs. Sokoto State, however chased and scored 21 runs all out in 3.4 overs. Lagos won by 14 run.

Action continues on Day 3 of the competition on Monday as Team Lagos seek to consolidate on the medal table which the state is currently leading.
