How 35-Year Old Farmer Was Killed By A Herdsman

A 35-year old farmer, Segun Akinlade, has been confirmed dead and allegedly killed by a cattle rearer, Muhammad Garba, who has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command over the death of the deceased.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, on 1st December, 2019, the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the Police at Imala Division that fight broke out between herdsmen and farmers in Imala as a result of which the DPO, Imala Division, CSP Mobolaji Jimoh, quickly mobilized his men and moved to the scene.
On getting to the scene, the corpse of the deceased farmer was met on the ground while the suspect, who also sustained machete cut injuries, was identified and promptly arrested.
Preliminary investigation revealed that trouble started when the deceased farmer got to his newly cleared farm land and met the suspect grazing his cattle there. In order to chase him away, he reportedly used catapult to frighten him but the stone from the catapult hit the herdsman on the forehead. That infuriated the suspect, who brought out cutlass to fight the deceased, who was also with a cutlass.
The two of them were said to have used cutlass on each other resulting to the death of the deceased. The corpse of deceased has been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
