Monday, October 1, 2018, was a day organised by the Christ Unity Ministry a.k.a. New Breed Glory House, 25 Isolo – Egbe Road, Oke Afa, Jakande Estate, Lagos, to celebrate the 58th Independence of Nigeria, The day was tagged “The Encounter, A New Nigeria.

The celebration was a success but what made the day very unique was that the world got to know that the Nigerian legendary boxer, Bashiru Lawrence Ali (OON), the World Boxing Federation (WBF) cruiserweight champion, had an encounter with Jesus Christ. The Edo State-born boxer was one of the guests at the Independence day programme at the church.

The Senior Pastor of Christ Unity Ministry, Rev. (Dr.) Olufemi Iroh described Bash Ali’s encounter with Jesus Christ as a day he would cherish the most.

He said:  “Bash Ali had gone through a lot in the course of bringing glory to his country. It was astonishing to see him rejecting 45 million euro from Germany just for him to fight in Nigeria, Instead of receiving support, he was rejected by his country but he didn’t relent.

“The day I met Bash Ali, in the process of ministering to him, the Holy Spirit told me to ask him if he (Bash Ali) would acknowledge Him. Bash Ali’s reply amazed me as he said: ‘Who is God? There is nothing like God. If there is God, how could we explain all these calamities happening around the world…there is no God’

“I told him that if he could acknowledge God, all his troubles would become a thing of the past. Bash Ali accepted to acknowledge Christ and I prayed for him and since then his life has never been the same again.

“On a Sunday morning, Bash Ali surprised me. We used to start service by 8am; Bash Ali was in the church as early as 7:30am to show how serious he was as a new convert.

“I am formerly the Borokini of Lagos. I relinquish this title and other luxuries of life to follow Christ and today I can boldly say that Jesus is Lord” Rev Iroh said.

While speaking on the problems facing Nigeria, Rev Iroh said that respite is on the way as a new Nigeria is coming where all the old things will pass away.

“There is going to be a radical person coming up and it will be like a revolution when things will change for the better in this country.

“When the time comes, something that will stir up and bring revolution action in the minds of the people will happen.

“Let me assure us that this is my country, I have no other country. We’ll live in it and survive; Nigeria will survive.

“The reason we are having problems in this country is that there is a wrong spirit running in the life of Nigerian leaders. We should not forget that there is no leader appointed without the approval of God. But immediately they assume office, this wrong spirit will enter their lives.

“To attain a new Nigeria, every Nigerian must live a life of righteousness. Every Nigerian has a role to play in saving Nigeria” the man of God said.
