A 14-year old boy has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly having sex with a 15-year old girl and impregnating her in the process.

The incident happened at Community Street, Modupe area of Lagos State, where they reside.

It was gathered that the boy and the victim had engaged in a sex romp which later resulted into pregnancy and she mentioned the boy as being the person responsible. He was arrested and detained at the Gender Section of the Police Command for investigation.

During interrogation, the boy admitted but insisted he was not the only one that had slept with her as one Lawrence Ekpo, who resides at Ileriooluwa Crescent, Oyemekun, was also mentioned during interrogation. He was equally arrested and he admitted that he slept with her the period the boy also slept with the victim.
The Police then became confused over who was actually responsible; both were found culpable for the girl’s pregnancy.

They were later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged defilement and impregnating the victim.

The boy pleaded not guilty while the plea of Mr. Ekpo was not taken.
The prosecutor, Mr. Christopher John, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice because one of the defendants was a minor.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E Nwaka, granted the boy bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. Then Mr. Ekpo was remanded in prison custody without an option of bail.
The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice. The defendants risk several years imprisonment if the DPP finds them culpable and recommends their trial for rape.

While the boy was remanded in juvenile custody, Ekpo was remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
The matter was adjourned till 6th September, 2019.
The name of the boy and the victim were withheld in line with the policy of the organization to protect minors in our reports.
