The arrest of a 19-year old boy, Gafari Ayinde, who was caught having sex with a six-year old girl, may have revealed the level of sexual molestation suffered by minors before cases of assault are exposed.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Awoniyi Street in Mushin area of Lagos, where they reside.

The suspect, Ayinde, claimed that the girl was close to him and as such he regarded her as his girlfriend before they were caught in the act and handed over to the police at Olosan Division.
It was gathered that the boy lured the victim into an apartment, removed her pant and penetrated her before he allowed her to go.
However, their neighbours, who suspected the movement of the victim, asked her what she went there to do and she revealed that the boy slept with her.
The parents of the victim then went to the police and reported what happened; the suspect was arrested and detained at the police station.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that during interrogation, the boy initially denied committing the offence before the victim was brought and she revealed what happened.

The police found Ayinde culpable and charged him before Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
He was not granted bail after the prosecutor, Mr. Edet Akadu, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP because the victim was a minor.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. K.O. Ogundare, ordered him to be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail.
The Court directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 7th August, 2019 for the DPP’s report to be ready.
The matter may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends that he should be tried for the alleged offence. He may spend several years in prison custody if he is tried and found guilty for the alleged offence.
