A 30-year old woman, Mrs. Elizabeth Ibezim, who went to Mile 12 market in Lagos and stole a 2-year old baby has been remanded in prison custody.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect revealed that she did not steal the victim to kill her for ritual purposes, but that she already had a buyer who wanted to buy the victim from her.

The little girl, Miss Ramudantu Mantimu, was stolen by Mrs. Ibezim at the yam section of Mile 12 market while her mother was busy attending to her customers. When the mother noticed that her girl was missing, she raised alarm and ran helter-skelter looking for the baby. She was very lucky as she caught up with Ibezim while escaping with the baby strapped to her back under the bridge at Mile 12, Lagos. She was apprehended and transferred to the Gender section of the Police Command, Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that at the command, the suspect confessed that she stole the baby and wanted to sell her to a buyer who needed a child.

She was charged to court for the alleged offence and she pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Mr. Benson Emuerhi did not oppose her bail but asked the court to give a short adjournment for trial.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat granted Mrs. Ibezim bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the police were already working on the information provided by Mrs. Ibezim to track the person who she said had wanted to buy the victim from her.
