Catholic Laity Council, Isolo Deanery Marks Laity Day

Hundreds of members of the Catholic Laity Council, Isolo Deanery of Lagos Archdiocese, on Sunday gathered to mark the Laity Day, where they honoured the Dean and Chaplain of the Deanery, Rev. Father Mathew Ogunyase and Rev Francis Adegun, respectively for their outstanding contributions to the success and progress of the Deanery.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the event, which was celebrated at St Peter’s Catholic Church, Ejigbo Lagos, started with a Solemn Mass conducted by Rev. Father Ogunyase, where all the 16 parishes under the Deanery, were fully represented to mark the day.
Some societies were also given awards for their outstanding contributions including the leaders of Catholic Women Organization, CMO and Confraternity of Christian Mothers, CCM. Mrs. Nneka Okenua and Lady Nkem Offor were equally honoured as Ezi Ada of Isolo Deanery.
The Chairperson of Isolo Deanery Laity Council, Mrs. Charity Nwaorgu, stated that the theme of this year’s celebration was ‘Call To Serve’. She urged the members to always work as collaborators in the vineyard of Lord and make the necessary sacrifices in order to ensure the spread of the gospel in the society.
She commended the Dean, Rev. Ogunyase and the Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Adegun, for their support towards the progress of the Laity Council in Isolo Deanery and solicited for continuous prayers for the priests and the Church.
Both Rev. Fr Ogunyase and Rev. Fr. Adegun commended the efforts of the leadership and the entire laity for their commitment and prayed for the continued growth of the Laity.
Some of the societies, which were given awards for their contributions included, CWO for Best Organization, CCM received award for Best Society in the Deanery, St John’s Catholic Church received theirs as the Best Parish in Quiz competition while St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Ejigbo, received award as the Best Parish in the Deanery.
The event was rounded up with display of cultural dances from parishes within the Deanery with huge attendance from other parishes outside the Deanery including the Vice Chairman, Laity Council, Lagos Archdiocese.
