Over 2,000 residents in Lekki area of Lagos, Ikota and Ajah communities benefitted from the evangelization and generosity carried out by the Ladies of St. Mulumba Nigeria, Lekki-Sub Council at the weekend.

At the charitable event, the Ladies distributed food, water, bibles, rosaries, catechism books and other items worth over a million naira were distributed freely to excited individuals that included children, women, widows and the less privileged.

According to the President of the group, Lady Nnenne Ukairo, Ladies of St Mulumba are wives of Knights of St Mulumba, Nigeria,  an honored Order in the Catholic Church and charity outreach is one of the key roles of the Order.

This Evangelization outreach focused on three locations made up of two outstations; St Rita and  St Theresa Ikota, using our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish Ajah, for Ajah community.

Lady Ukairo noted that  LSM, Lekki Sub Council understood that a hungry man or woman needs food before listening to the gospel in line with the attributes of Jesus Christ in feeding the hungry. Its is a demonstration of goodwill that Jesus loves them.

She expressed happiness at the reception they got adding that the majority of people were excited and were even asking for more bibles and other religious items that will aid their worship of God.

The people were warm and very receptive of the items distributed.

The Chairperson of the Evangelization planning committee, Lady Ifeoma Okocha-Ojeah, also said  the gesture is a product of what Jesus admonished Christians to do in Mathew 28 verses 19 and 20, to make disciples of people of all the nations and teaching them to understand the commandments of God.

She added that the outreach also enabled them to reactivate the inactive who are yearning for Christ.

The Vice President of the Ladies of St Mulumba, Lekki Sub Council,  Lady Theresa Chiejina was visibly excited at the success of the programme.

She said: “I feel happy and excited at our experience today. I appreciate all our members for bringing out time from their busy schedules to reach out to others. We all created and dedicated it to spreading the gospel and it’s indeed fulfilling. Our Lord expect us to make good use of our talents, treasure and time in serving the people and propagating the message that can only lead to salvation.  We have done our part and the Holy Spirit will continue the rest”.

The President, Lady Nnenne Ukairo added that Charity outreach is a quarterly event and they are more motivated with the impressive and successful outcome.

Some of the recipients who spoke to the media were happy and promised to make good use of the items received in improving their relationship with their neighbours and with God.

However, it was so obvious that the people really need help especially materially going by the rate at which the large number of food shared, biscuits and other items didn’t really go round as many more people were eager to receive a pack of the food shared.
