Lagos LG Polls: PDP, Labour Parties Team Up Against APC
CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
Political Parties contesting for Lagos State Local government elections have intensified their efforts to win as the two leading opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party team up against the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC Candidates in the election scheduled to hold on Saturday in all the Local governments in the state.
The alliance seems to have caused serious panic and tension within the APC in some areas and Local governments especially in Alimosho, Oshodi, Ejigbo, Apapa, Yaba, Mushin and other areas in the State.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the gang-up seemed to be strengthened especially in the 18 Local governments where the ruling party returned their chairmen unopposed as candidates for the elections.
P.M.EXPRESS learnt that some aggrieved APC members who felt shortchanged over the arrangement were said to be working secretly to ensure that the opposition defeat the APC candidates to prove a point.
Some of the opposition members and candidates who spoke to P.M.EXPRESS said that they were very optimistic that the people will vote against the ruling APC because they were tired of them at the local, state and federal levels.
The opposition members said the election was not going to be easy for APC because of the self-inflicted crises over the candidates that emerged.
P.M.EXPRESS also learnt that besides the crises, the state governor did not release any fund for the campaigns and candidates were not ready to spend their hard earned money for the election because of uncertainty of winning.
However, APC members said that they were not taking any chances and will ensure victory in all the local government in the State.
One of the APC members said the outstanding issues that came up during the nomination has been resolved by the Party’s National leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and so the party remained a united family in the State.
” Lagos is an APC State and the good works of the state governor is already a campaign for the party in all the Local governments” party members stated.
Meanwhile, the candidates and their supporters have started house to house campaign to seek support from the electorate.
However, P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the candidates were not getting the needed support because they were not sharing gifts and money as it used to be in the past.
Some candidates were said to be embarrassed about the attitude of some electorates who openly told them that they will not participate because the candidates did not bring anything for the campaign.
