The police in Lagos have arrested a 38-year old man, one Adeyemi Adejumo, for engaging a 2-year old girl in sex and defiling her in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ajose Lane off Ike Olu Street, Idi-oro area of Mushin, Lagos.

It was gathered that the defendant lured the 2-year old victim into his apartment, removed her pant and defiled her.
However, while he was still in the act, the mother of the victim started looking for her and traced her to the suspect’s apartment. The mother, who became suspicious of the movement of the victim to the suspect’s apartment checked her private part only to discover that she was defiled and she then raised alarm.

The matter was reported to the Police and the suspect was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the State Command for interrogation.
After investigation, the police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement.
The court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol E. Ayorinde, informed the court that it was a case of defilement with a minor and required the advice of DPP.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail. The court also directed the prosecutor to send the file to the DPP for advice and adjourned the matter till 11th February, 2019.
The case may be transferred to the High court if the DPP finds him culpable because it is a capital offence that will attract long imprisonment P.M.EXPRESS gathered.
