A man, Johnson Taiwo, has landed in trouble in Lagos after he allegedly spent the sum of N360, 000 mistakenly paid into his bank account.

The incident happened at Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos, where he resides and where he received the alert from the bank.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that one Chukwunonso Egbuka wanted to make payment into another person’s bank account over an undisclosed business transaction but mistakenly paid the said money into Johnson Taiwo’s Access Bank account with number 0094684537 and the bank credited the money to him.

Mr. Taiwo was said to have been happy when he received the bank alert but did not ask how the money got into his account; he quickly withdrew and started spending it.
When the owner, Mr. Egbuka, discovered that he had paid the money into a wrong account number, he reported and the bank traced the account the money was paid into. But by then Taiwo had emptied the account and spent the whole money. He was later trailed and arrested.

During interrogation, he admitted that he received the bank alert and withdrew the money. He claimed that the incident happened when he needed some money to solve pressing financial problems and he had exhausted it.
The Police found him culpable and later charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court that since Taiwo pleaded not guilty, the Court should give a date for the police to prove the facts of the matter.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A Layinka, granted him bail in the sum N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 7th August, 2019.
