Motorcyclist Lands In Prison For Crushing Man To Death

A motorcyclist, Bolaji Afolabi, 25 has been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly riding his motorcycle with plate No KJA 749 QH recklessly and dangerously on the public highway without regards to other road users and crush Fidelis Nnachetam, a resident of Bonny Camp Cantoment,Victoria Island, Lagos to death.
The incident, according to the police occurred on 7 January on Igbosere-Okesuna junction, Lagos Island.
The accused, a resident of Lewis Street, Lagos Island was arrested by the Police at the Lion Building Division, Lagos Island and arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on a two count charge of riding motorcycle dangerously on a public highway without due care and caused death.
Police Counsel, Reuben Solomon informed the Court in charge No M/03/2018 that the accident occurred when the accused who rode his motorcycle along the Okesuna Street failed to obey the traffic rules and regulations while approaching the Igbosere Road Four junctions and rammed on the victim who died on the spot.
Solomon said that the offenses the accused committed were punishable under sections 19(1) and 20 of the Lagos State Road Traffic Laws of Nigeria,2012.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate, S.K Matepo admitted him on bail in the sum of N200,000 with two surties in like sum one of whom must be a blood relation.
Matepo adjourned the case till 7 February for mention and directed the Prosecutor to send the case file to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP for advice on the matter.
She ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Prison, Lagos till he perfect the bail conditions.
