2 Hotel Security Guard Docked Over Inability To Catch Thieves During Operation

Two hotel security guards, Omolate Olayemi, 41 and Benjamin Tunde, have landed in trouble in Lagos State after thieves stole the hotel’s power generating set and a standing fan worth N860,000 and escaped.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the hotel management handed them over to the Police for their inability to apprehend the thieves and negligence.
The incident happened at Tropical Hotel and Suites, located on Liasu Road, Ikotun area of Lagos, where they were employed as security guards.
According to Police sources, thieves went to the place at night and stole the items and escaped. And when the hotel management discovered the theft, it was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division.
Hence, the security guards were arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over their alleged negligence and for not apprehending the thieves who stole the items.
After interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
They however, pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
They were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 11th October, 2023, for mention.
