Two mechanics, Ibrahim Idris, 26 and Godwin Hope, 28, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly selling a Toyota Sienna worth N3m, which was brought to them for repairs.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects had already told the Police that they sold the vehicle to solve their personal problems and pleaded guilty before the Court for conspiracy and stealing.
The incident happened at Olude Mechanic workshop, off Ipaja/Ayobo Road, Ipaja, Lagos where the owner, Onyeka Stephen, brought the vehicle for repairs.
Having pleaded guilty for conspiracy, stealing and selling the vehicle, the Court ordered their remand in custody pending when the prosecutor will present the facts of the matter.
The defendants landed in trouble after the complainant, Stephen, took his vehicle to the defendants at their workshop on 29th April, 2024, for repairs. Instead of repairing the Toyota Sienna bus, they sold it at a reduced price and shared the money.
When the owner of the bus went to carry it, they told him that they have sold it and have equally spent the money to solve their personal problems.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ipaja Division and the defendants were arrested. They were later charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
They however, pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for him to present the facts of the matter for the Court to sentence him accordingly to serve as deterrent to others who might want to commit such crime in future.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, ordered their remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the prosecutor will present the facts of the matter and adjourned till 28th May,2024 for facts and sentence.
